This Summit Fever

Album Review: This Summit Fever – Self-Titled

The UK fuzz-rock duo, This Summit Fever, is set to drop their self-titled, Majestic Mountain Records debut on April 4, 2025, and it’s a riff-fueled avalanche of raw energy and thunderous grooves. Sitting somewhere between Fu Manchu and Melvins, they prove that two people can make enough noise to shake mountains.

Originally a pandemic lockdown experiment by guitarist/vocalist Andy Blackburn, This Summit Fever evolved into a full-blown fuzz-rock beast when drummer Jim McSorley jumped in. Their philosophy? Strip away the excess, crank up the riffs, and let the music punch through with unfiltered power. And it works—every track on this album is a high-voltage ride through bone-rattling stoner rock, sludgy grit, and just enough melody to keep you sane.

With festival slots at Bloodstock, Desertfest, and Stoomfest already under their belt, this duo has made it clear—they’re not here to mess around. This Summit Fever is a no-frills, all-thrills debut that’s as relentless as it is electrifying. Buckle up, turn it up, and prepare to be flattened.

Why you should check it out

I’ve been a fan of This Summit Fever for years, chatting multiple times with Andy and Jim on the Slightly Fuzzed Podcast, and I was a fierce advocate for the 2021 EP, Doubt. To see them go from a one-man, home recording project, to a full Majestic Mountain release fills me with joy. But this review is not fueled by nostalgia, the album rocks. This Summit Fever have progressed just as they should over the last few years. The sound has improved, the songwriting has improved, the focus has improved, and the result is a massive, fuzz-filled rock record, that while great, is clearly only the beginning for This Summit Fever.

What might make it even better

This Summit Fever delivers relentless energy from start to finish, only shifting gears on the closing track, It Haunts Us. While their signature fuzz-drenched, up-tempo bangers hit hard as always, this final track proves they have even more to offer. As they continue to evolve, it’ll be exciting to see them push their creativity further—though no matter where they go next, there’s no doubt they’ll continue to impress.

In just a few years, they have gone from solo home recordings to commanding major festival stages. With Jim McSorley’s thunderous drumming driving Andy’s blues-fuzz riffs, this duo is making a lot of beautiful noise.
